About the Artist

Who am I?  Well, there's not really too much to tell.  My name is Rachel and I am what you may call a 'self taught' artist.  I perhaps consider myself to be an "outsider artist" this would explain the way I feel about creating.  I have felt a love for art and creativity from day one.  Painting, drawing, sculpting, and even more fun- using these things to decorate my spaces like my bedroom, my car,or my locker in school.  Ask my parents how much fun it was to fix my bedroom walls after I stapled and nailed and stuck all sorts of things all over the walls and ceiling.  Not to mention the painted handprints covering the walls.  If it looks plain, I consider it a blank canvas.  I just have a nack for taking something bare and covering it with color to make it more fun, yes color is my idea of fun.  So anyways, I really found a love for sculpting and when I was about 14.  I thought my future entailed purchasing a kiln and clays and tools and glazes... that's about the time I was introduced to fimo clay by a friend who liked to make beads.  I thought modeling clay was cool, now I could bake it and keep it forever?? Rock on!!  So I began using polymer clays for fun and making little figures for my friends, never really considering selling anything I made.  Then my world was opened up to all the tools and clays and paints and hair and armatures (which I had no idea what THAT thing was for) and suddenly it became even more fun.  So I took the sculpting a little more seriously, but not too seriously because that might put a damper on the 'fun factor'.

So High School was over & of course, once you graduate High School, you go to college, and what was I to go to college for?  Well, art I suppose.  Yea, that lasted just under a semester.  A semester of taking courses I didn't need, having profs I didn't like, and being told how to do things.  No thanks.  I suddenly realized that even if I did some how survive this insanity, what the hey was I going to do with this infinetly powerful piece of paper once I made it through?  Heck if I knew.  So I dumped that idea, got a job as a secretary and started paying for that useless semester of college. I stayed in that job for the next six years.  Six years of flourescent lights sucking the life from me.  *cringe*
Fortunately, my husband started his own Web Development Firm in 2004 which was not an easy task by any means.  It is still a struggle at times, but we are all learning as we go, right?  This should have been my ticket outta secretary ville no?  No.  Well not at first.  I did begin working for my husband in 2006 and it is awesome to be able to be together all the time.  We are very blessed that our lives have worked out this way.

God has been so awesome in our lives and we thank him constantly for it.  We have met some great people and know that no matter what our lives are going through, we are still blessed.  I decided it was time to take the talent God has given me and use it.  Whether anyone finds my art good or bad, I love doing it and I want to honor God with the gifts he has given me.  This site is not just some marketplace for me to make money, it's a place to share what I know, to help anyone I can.  My advice?  Find happiness in doing what you love, but only when it's fun because no one wants their passion to become a job. *ick*  There is so much more to life than the things we see and especially the things we own.

So what's my story?... Well, my husband and I live in the counrty with our five dogs and a cat and we can't say no to a free puppy (although we must!!).  I love camping, and cook outs, and bon fires and fireflies.  I become breathless when I look at the stars, I wish I could take a walk in the woods every day, my favorite color is deep raspberry pink (you know, the color the sunrise or sunset can be sometimes).  I love video games, I want to read more books, we have hardly any carpet in our house because we are remodeling and started everything at once.  I love the smell of fresh cut grass and oil paints too(not together... although I've never tried mixing them), if I could, I would eat pizza for every meal, fall is my favorite time of year, my idea of a vacation is staying home and watching movies and playing video games all day, & I have been referred to as 'weird' more than once.. if you can imagine.  Most importantly, God is so good!!  That pretty much sums it up, sheesh, I could have narrowed this content down if I had started there!  I guess that's it, I hope you found something you liked when you visited my site, and of course, I thank you for stopping by.
